ASB PresidentRight after inauguration, the pressures of being ASB President set in and planning for the next year began. Before school had even ended, the new ASB officers met to discuss what was to come with the year and together, we voted on filling the positions that hadn't been filled during the first election. Throughout the summer, I and a few of the other officers took inventory of everything ASB had stored from previous events. Not only that but i, along with a few of the officers, also took it upon ourselves to plan out some events and design t-shirts, banners and signs for the school, before summer started. We prepared for the year months before it started and can't wait for our plans to unfold, making school fun.

Class Vice PresidentBeing a class officer has made me realize, like ASB, that there are so many things that need to be planned and prepared. Because of this position, I know that I need to be willing to step up to lead a large group of people in order to be successful and reach a certain goal. As class Vice President, I have had to help organize fundraisers, design class t-shirts, and keep the class informed with upcoming events. Prom was one of the events that was part of our responsibilities and when our advisor went on maternity leave, the president and I were able to pull it off with the help of the committee we recruited.

TRiOTRiO is a program that runs through COS and because of my involvement in this program, I was able to have more opportunities than other students. Because of this program, I was able to visit a number of universities including: UC Davis, Stanford, UC Santa Cruz, CSU Monterey Bay, Sacramento State, and San Francisco State. I would reccomend that many people join TRiO because they pay for for trips, give you a stipend, offer tutoring services, give free SAT prep, show you how to apply for college, write letters of recommendation, and they offer summer classes that allow you to get your college general education done before graduating high school.

FBLAFuture Business Leaders of America taught me so many things. Because of this club, I've learned that studying is the key to success. Though I didn't study as much as I should have for our Central Section competition, my friends helped me study the hour before my event began and I was able to place in 5th which got me into State. At the State Conference, I competed in two events and went up against people that were far more prepared than I. These people carried textbooks around everywhere they went and studied every chance they got. Now I know that I can't just jump into things without preparing for things because there will always be someone that wins for being more prepared.

CSFThe California Scholarship Federation is a scholarship program offered for students that work hard in school. My favorite thing about CSF is that its one of the only programs that honor students for their good grades and allow them to have a special sash at graduation. This program gives me with motivation to keep my grades up considering that it is required that we have enough qualifying classes to remain eligible.

Key ClubKey Club has provided a lot of volunteer opportunities and personally, its something I enjoy doing. I would rather spend my time helping others instead of sitting at home doing nothing. I am the Key Club Recorder which means that it is my responsibility to photograph events, members, and officers. My involvement in Key club has been quite enjoyable and I look forward to what my last year in the club will look like.

LHS Leadership (ASB)I joined leadership class my Junior year and I wish I could have joined it sooner. All of the volunteer work made the class worth while and for some time, we forgot that it was a class. We spent the majority of the time planning rallies and other event schedules but always made time to do the procedural parts which are the weekly meetings. I enjoyed the class so much that I chose to take it a step further and run for President. Now I am ASB President and it feels good being able to understand how much it takes to keep school events running smoothly.

Adventure ClubAdventure Club started off with a lot of fundraising. The members before us left the club account in the negatives so it was our job to get it back up. Once enough money was raised, we planned a 3 day camping trip to the beach that was a nice break that everyone needed. I was unable to attend the trip but the other members said it was a blast and I can't wait for what this year brings to the table.

Prom CommitteeTogether, a group of people from our class took the initiative to plan prom. It was a difficult task to be able to budget everything in order to make a profit as well as keep everyone focused on completing their assigned task. This experience was one like no other and I'm grateful that I was able to take part in this considering that we received positive feedback from a lot of the seniors and chaperones that saw the decorations that we worked so hard on putting together. On the morning of prom day we all came together and set everything up that the Visalia convention center and couldnt wait to see it that evening when the seniors and other juniors arrived to enjoy themselves.

HomecomingStarting Sophomore year, I became involved with helping with class affairs and one of them had to do with Homecoming week. For two years, I helped build the float for our class and it took a lot of time and work considering that only four people helped build on a regular basis. We didn't have much to work with or much money to spend on these floats but we managed to get the job done as best we can and many were impressed with what he were able to accomplish.

AVIDI have been in the AVID program all four years of high school. There were times I wanted quit but I'm glad I didn't. At first we all got along really well and bonded with our AVID LF, Mr. Guss but once he left, the "family feel" was gone. AVID often times was the only thing providing me with motivation but after a while it was lost. When we got our new facilitator, Mrs. Zike, it was difficult to adjust but I'm glad we got someone who's not afraid to tell the truth and be real with us. Our "AVID Family" isn't much of a family but there still is that support amongst each other though its hard to notice at times. Unfortunately, I can't say that it is what prepared me for college.

REAPI have been a part of REAP starting my Freshman year. I have no regrets participating in such a program because it is what motivated me to work hard starting high school. Others that are not in reap didn't strive for the highest grades when they were easiest and they regretted it because they struggle to get their GPA up. Thanks to REAP I was pushed to do my best starting Freshman year and I don't regret a single moment of it.

Excursion ClubThe Excursion club is not a part of Lindsay High school but it is run by one of the teachers there. I chose to participate in this club because nothing interests me more than going to historical landmarks in the East Coast after just learning about the events that took place there. It may not have interested me as much if I had never taken APUSH my Junior year because it's a lot of fundraising to pay for the trip but as the departure date gets closer, I have no regrets being a part of this trip that will be the last trip I spend with my friends before going our separate ways in life.

Intensive Law and Trial - Stanford UniversityOver the summer before senior year, I spent ten days living at Stanford learning about the courtroom and real life cases. We learned about objections, proper procedures, received lectures by Stanford Law professors and had a mock trial simulation where all groups were divided up and carried out a trial in a real life courtroom at the Superior Court in San Fransisco. Those were the best ten days of my life.

Volunteer Hours
I try to be as involved as possible and try to help out the community whenever I can. I had over 40 hours of community service my freshman year and much more as the years went by. Here are a few examples of the community service hours I served.
Earth Day Tree PlantingOn earth day, my freshman year, my AVID class and I took it upon ourselves to go tree planting in our city park. We wanted to restore the natural beauty of the park and each of us planted about 2 trees per group of three.

SCICON BBQIn 2013, I volunteered at the SCICON Spring BBQ where we washed dishes and served food to all of the people that attended the event. It was a great experience where we learned how to work with each other and talk to the many people that showed up to the event.

HOW dinnersHOW stands for "Helping Other Women" and basically, it is a benefit dinner to raise money for women in need. I volunteered to serve food, set up tables, clean up and wash the dishes. I helped with whatever I could and for the eight times I've helped out with it, I had fun.
|
Food DaysFood days are special events that happen about four times a year. Each club or organization on campus has the option to use this as a chance to raise money. I have helped organize and set up these events as well as sell during them. Additionally, as of this year, I have also helped keep the festivities going by setting up and running the sound system to play music.

Santa NightEvery year, the Lindsay Police Department opens up the firestation to hand out gifts to the children of the community. This is the second year I volunteer for this event and I regret not doing it sooner. The looks on the childrens' faces make stanting in the blistering cold worth while.
|
Food BoothsI first began working and volunteering for the consession stands to raise money for my AVID class but eventually I simply volunteered to help out. Once I became a part of ASB that role changed and now I help take inventory, set up, and clean up in addition to selling food during every game.
